Third International Forum: Energy for Sustainable Development

The Third International Forum: Energy for Sustainable Development will be held at the Issyk Kul Lake in Kyrgyzstan on 12-14 September 2012. The Forum is organized jointly by the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

This Forum is a follow-up to the International Energy Efficiency Forums held in September 2010 in Astana, Kazakhstan and in September 2011 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

About site

Almost all the Kyrgyz housing stock has been constructed during Soviet period some 35-60 years ago without any regard to energy efficiency.

The project aims at reducing energy consumption and associated GHG emissions in Kyrgyzstan building sector by 30-40% as compared to the current level.
